From: Michael_Moran From: Michael Sheehan Sent: Sunday, October 31, 2004 12:53 PM Subject: Nelson and the Redsox parade Hey, as an avid red sox fan, I became aware of Nelson shortly after Pedro began bringing him to some of his games. As his star has risen, he has made more appearences, and during game 4 of the ALCS against the Yankees, he was under the concourse offering photo ops with fans for $10, but unfortunatly Park security asked him to leave. One of these pictures surfaced on www.bostondirtdogs.com a while ago but I cannot find it now. After game 7, Nelson was rumored to be doing the same thing, except this time he set up shop in the Cask'n Flagon, a bar near Fenway. Nelson was also sighted during the Sox celebratory parade riding alongside Pedro on one of the Duck Boats. I have included a picture as an attachment. Thanks and keep up the good work. Sincerely, Jeremy Clough I had asked Kevin Schiffman (see below) if I could post his picture with Nelson and he wrote back... From: Kevin Schiffman Sent: Thursday, October 28, 2004 12:23 PM Subject: RE: NELSON RULES!! HELL YEAH!!! POST IT!! I will tell you the story now that it is over. My buddy called me up on Saturday afternoon and asked me if I wanted to go to Game 4 and I couldn’t pass it up, I have been to so many games this year that I had to go for this one. I got to Fenway Park on Sunday after the Patriots game and it was DEAD! Yes we did lose 19-8 on Saturday vs. the Yankees, so I could understand how people felt. Now down 3 and 0 in the series I had an idea we were going to beat them tonight and people would finally wake up. So met my buddy and went to Tequila Rain, a bar on Lansdowne St next to Fenway Park for some food and drinks before the game. During game 4 we were down and I was getting very upset, so I got up and walked around the park for a little while than ended up on the concourse behind home plate where I saw Nelson. He was taking pictures with the fans, so I went over and asked if I can take a picture with him. When I took the picture I told him that we would win this and to put your finger up representing Number 1 and he understood me and did. After the picture I went back to my seat and held the picture up and we tied the game 4-4. Then Ortiz came up in the LAST inning and put the picture up again and he hit the game winning homerun. So then on to Game 5, I had to go and I got tickets. I brought the picture with me to work and we scanned onto the computer and I sent it to BostonDirtDogs.com because I knew that they put up picture on the site and I was just trying to spread the luck. I ended up getting interviewed by the Boston Herald, New York Times and a couple of other stations. Well at Game 5, some people recognized me from BDD.com which was awesome and they wanted to see the picture. I tied the picture to the string of my sweatshirt and had it out for everyone to see and touch for good luck and it worked! WE WON GAME 5!!! For Game 6 repeated the process at home and we won. Game 7, went to Tequila Rain were it all started in Game 4 and wore the same clothes and had the picture and WON! Well I did the same routine over and over for 4 games against St. Louis and as you can see on October 27, 2004, the Boston Red Sox became the 2004 World Series Champions and the rest is history. THANK YOU NELSON and THANK YOU 2004 BOSTON RED SOX FOR A GREAT YEAR! I have a picture with me and Nelson taken at Sunday's game, I was walking around and saw him, so I asked if I can take a picture with him. After the picture was taken we tied 4-4 and then won the game, after that went to Monday's game and won again, then last night had the picture with me and WON AGAIN!! Now I will bring the picture to Fenway tonight and will be at Tequila Rain for Game 7!!!!! Kevin Schiffman From: Hilda Ramirez Sent: Monday, October 18, 2004 11:48 AM Subject: Hi! Hey there! First off, I think it's great that you are a fan of Nelson and have created a website in his honor. As a Dominican-American I just wanted to clarify that the correct spelling of "mahow" is "majao", or probably more properly, "majao' ". The song that Nelson is dancing to in that video is a merengue by Benny Sadel. He had several other hits and in all of them he uses the "majao, majao" slogan in reference to the dance. Merengue artists use these "slogans" as a way of identifying themselves on their songs. Dominicans have a tendency to not completely enunciate their words, particularly word endings. "Majao'" is the Dominican way of saying "majado" which means "mashed". We use a wooden mortar (pilon) to mash plantains for a variety of dishes. See this site for more details: http://www.dominicancooking.com/recipes/specialoccasions/mofongo.htm The majao, majao dance is a play on the action of mashing plantains using a pilon. The pestle is a phallic symbol which is why the reference to it, combined with the thrusty motion hip motion, results in a dance that is a sexual innuendo. Long live Nelson! And best wishes to you. I share season tickets to the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. Yesterday was the 2nd to last home game of the year, and I, as usual, trudged to my usual seat in Section 12, Row 11. As I walked up the steep aisle, something caught my eye in the first seat of a row just short of mine. I had come face to face with Nelson De La Rosa. He was attending the game as a guest of Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez who is a friend of his. He stayed for several innings (he was accompanied by a handler who carries him around) and put on a little show - high fiving other fans when the Red Sox did something good, and putting his head inside a bag of Cracker Jack (at which point I just about lost it). Let me tell you something - no matter how sensitive you are, nothing can prepare you for a face to face meeting with a 28 inch tall man. Unbelievable. Suffice it to say that I had never heard of him before yesterday, although I had seen Island of Dr Moreau, but I always thought his character was a special effect... JBennett |
